    • Abstract:
This qualitative case study explores adolescent's responses to texts containing death and destruction, a seminal trope of the Gothic literary genre. Participants read both classic and popular culture texts featuring characters grappling with death in their seventh grade reading classroom. Observations, interviews and documents were collected and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that through exploring death, all of the participants reaped meaningful insights about life that had personal and social benefits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
