    • Abstract:
The article discusses a professor's transformation of a college biology course at an urban university to one less reliant on memorization and so-called cookbook style laboratory experiments. His objective was to substitute inquiry-based methods which, citing Uno (1990), combines hands-on activities, student discussion, and discovery. In this format, the teacher is not the focal point of information transfer, but rather a facilitator of discussion among the students. The paper discusses the methods used and results, including the new curriculum, student assessment, and course evaluation. A chart and graph are used to show class topics, activities, and bioinformatics experiments.
